Color The Sky
oil and wax on canvas
30"x30"x2.5"
... memories of these brief but breath-taking moments can simmer in my mind for days, weeks, who knows how long, and then just bubble up onto the canvas… it is not difficult to miss the changing light as the day recedes into night, as we hustle and bustle to get to that ‘somewhere’ we need to be, often forgetting to just stop and breathe and be present for those fleeting moments when the sky just seems to dance right before your eyes…’color the sky’ is my visual feeling of those precious moments…
Like A Shy Lover
oil and wax on canvas
40”x40”x2.5”
…this painting speaks to the feeling I get from observing (and observing and observing) the incoming tide as it meets the shore and then so quickly recedes… it is a daily ritual of mine to listen to this familiar, calming sound and to watch the momentary, flirtatious pause of the sea as if she is pondering just how long to stay…. ‘like a shy lover’ evolved from forever watching the sea meet the sand…
Blue Notes
oil and wax on canvas
30”x30”x2.5”
…another moment in time (our lives are full of them) when we are given the choice to look or not look, to see or not, the changes in the sky, the changes in the sea, as day recedes into night…. living at the water’s edge at the outermost reaches of Cape Cod MA, I am blessed with witnessing an indescribable light daily…. my eyes breathe in deep indigos against stark whites, and when I least expect it, those feelings show themselves on my canvas!... ’blue notes’ was commissioned by friends of mine, both musicians, who also call the outer cape home...
Drawn In
oil and wax on canvas
18”x18”x2.5”
…this is how Provincetown feels to me in what is known as ‘off season’…. not a lot of activity on the streets at this time of year, but the sea and the sky are truly alive and present … it is a favorite time of year for me, fall into winter, when the cooler air brings crisp and vibrant color to the sky and mother nature is in full bloom … this is the season when I stare in disbelief with the eyes of a child, just captivated by her mastery… and this is how ‘drawn in’ came to pass … it was sold to a friend and collector of mine, and I’m still unsuccessfully trying to barter her back!
A Certain Kind Of Light
oil and wax on canvas
36”x36”x2.5”
…early spring … early morning … and out for a walk with boo, my very handsome whippet … I swear he feels the magic too as we take our daily morning stroll down to the wharf … the scent of the sea, the feeling of promise in the air, the colors soft and inviting … just a hint of lavender, calming grays, and so may shades of blue and green and everything in between … ‘a certain kind of light’ indeed ...
